For those travelling by car, bus or train the starting point will be on the path at the bridge/ entrance for old science centre or what was called 'The Big Idea'. There are plenty of car parking spaces. We will start the walk at 10:30.
This is a circular / figure of 8 route. Averages 3.2 miles/5 km but may be shortened or extended depending on walkers preferences & weather conditions. It’s a walk categorised as easy and is on mainly well used paths, however a pole may be preferred as some of paths are uneven and some comprise mainly sand. For anyone who was watching the recent golf championship you know you need to have your water proof jacket (and trousers) on or in the backpack.
We will begin by walking towards the sea front passing a quirky little sculpture.
We then cross in front of the coast guard building/ toilet block & join the beach park.
We will walk anticlockwise heading initially towards Irvine's legendary dragon sculpture. As we get closer we tackle the first of a few inclines.
We leave the dragon behind and walk towards Troon costal path ( parallel to the beach) looping round to the left across the well trodden paths & walking back to the pond in the beach park (this is point we shorten / extend depending on the weather and preferences).
We can walk round the pond in either direction and exit onto Beach drive and through the houses, the boat yard and out onto Harbour Street. A left turn takes us past the Harbour Arts Centre, the Ship Inn and GRO Coffee Shop where we can stop for a refreshment before returning to our cars ( a right turn takes us up towards the station and includes more cafes or the ice cream shop Vanilla Joes).
Anyone making their own way there please let me know.
