The walk start is at Elibank and Traquair Forest Car Park (on minor road, south side of the Tweed, about 3 miles east of Walkerburn). Limited spaces at car park so car sharing where possible. There are two ‘car parks’ close together – ours is the second, signed ‘Elibank and Traquair Forest’. Distance to car park from Peebles is 12.2 miles. We aim to be starting the walk about 10.00 a.m. A moderate walk on forest roads, tracks and paths, long steady uphill stretch, three awkward gates, muddy after rain.
The route joins a forest track track for a while before going left onto a Forestry Commission ‘road’ then a hill path to the top of Ashiestiel Hill (402m). We then go along a rough track to the top forestry road of Elibank which is followed before turning right and down to the Tweed riverside path, taking us eventually back to the car park and the start. *Route may be varied depending on weather.
Packed lunch and drinks required.
Please would all those wishing to go on the walk contact the walk leaders giving them a contact phone number in case of any problems. Please also let them know if you are going direct to the Elibank car park at the start.
