Overview

PLEASE SEE DIRECTIONS BELOW:

From Bathpool Southern Car Park our route heads south to Harecastle Tunnel and onto the Trent & Mersey canal to Westport Lake. From there we join a cycle path towards Tunstall and then on to Kidsgrove, joining the old railway loop line. A pleasant stroll through Bathpool Park returns us to our starting point.

We will stop en route for a picnic, so please bring your own refreshments.

Access to Peacock Hay Rd/Lowlands Road from the A500/A34 (Talke interchange) is currently closed so:

If coming from M6/J16 down A500 (“D-road”), DO NOT get off at A34 (Talke interchange) but continue to the next one, A527 Kidsgrove.  At the first roundabout turn left into Chatterley Road. At next (small) roundabout turn left again, into the east end of Lowlands Road, ignoring the Road Ahead Closed signs. The car park is on the R, immediately before the actual closure.

If (like me –{Nick}) you are avoiding the Motorway: Take A34 north towards Stoke/Newcastle. Turn right onto the A500 (“D-road”) at Hanford (just south of Stoke/Newcastle – near J15) and follow it nearly all the way round to the A527 Kidsgrove exit – then follow instructions above.
