We are the Romsey Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
A 2-part figure-of-8 walk in the New Forest of which this is part 1. Starting from Beaulieu Road car park we cross open heathland before entering Denny Lodge Inclosure where we will pass through deciduous and coniferous woodland, mostly along the Forest's robust trails. Options for lunch are the Drift Inn (recommended as users can use the hotel car park and avoid possible issues if the public car park is full) or bring a picnic lunch.
With no stiles and good underfoot conditions this walk is a relatively easy walk and ideal for those with dogs. Dogs will, however, have to be kept on a lead when we're on the open heathland to avoid disturbing ground-nesting birds.
Whilst both walks are rated 'leisurely' anyone wanting to go on both walks should consider them as 'moderate' given the fitness required for the combined total length.
Romsey Rapids rear car park adjacent to the Romsey Town FC fence for possible car-share. Please contact the leader on 07880 500764 if you require a lift.
Beaulieu Road car park, opposite the Beaulieu Hotel near Beaulieu Road Station. Anyone wanting to use the Drift Inn for food and/or drinks at lunchtime may use the hotel car park.
