Overview

The walk starts from outside Blackheath Station. To get there you will need to catch the Thameslink train to platform 5 at London Bridge.  Leaving Brighton at 08.28, Burgess Hill at 08.42 and Haywards Heath at 08.49. At London Bridge we will cross to Platform 1 to catch the 09.47 (Gravesend train) to Blackheath, arriving at 10.00.  You will need to buy the Super Off Peak Travelcard. (£10.80 from Haywards Heath with a senior railcard.) This Travelcard covers all your transport requirements to Blackheath and from London Bridge back to your home station. Do NOT ask for individual tickets for the separate stages of the journey. The travelcard will also cover any London underground, DLR or buses should we have to change our plans on the day.

The walk will leave Blackheath station soon after 10am when all those who have booked arrive. We will pass Blackheath Halls, cross Blackheath and enter Greenwich Park where there are a number of interesting attractions to see, including the Royal Observatory

We will eat our picnic lunch in Greenwich Park before visiting the Queens House Gallery at the National Maritime Museum. The walk will then continue past the Cutty Sark and under the Thames via the Greenwich Foot Tunnel to the Isle of Dogs. We will then follow the Thames Path to the SS Great Eastern launch ramp, Millwall and the Canary Wharf Pier. The Clipper boat trip  back to London Bridge City Pier is  Approx £10 but £5.25 if you have a senior citizen bus pass.
