A leisurely paced walk across Horsell Common encompassing contrasting habitats of meadows and heathlands. The walk will be co-led by Michael Jones, Education and Engagement Officer for the Thames Basin Heaths Partnership. Michael has led a walk for us before which was justly very popular. We'll seek out a variety of plants and animals, including birds like Stonechats, Dartford Warblers, Whitethroats and Blackcaps. We'll look for a variety of insects, including the remarkable Beewolf, the ferocious Green Tiger Beetle, and should encounter a range of wonderful butterflies and dragonflies. The heather should be coming into bloom too. Not suitable for dogs (but obviously Assistance Dogs are welcome). If you have binoculars, do bring them, hopefully there will be plenty to see.
The walk will be no longer than 4 miles (but could be shorter if we find lots to look at). If it's been raining, it could be muddy.
