This is a grade C+ walk with only 2 gates to climb, no stiles and no tarmac! Minimum distance 6.5 miles but if all goes well on the day will extend to 7.5 miles taking in Busbie Reservoir.
A gentle climb, on a hard core track takes us up past the wind farm switch house to turbine 14. Here a wee path goes through a dyke to a well manicured grass track. The route continues meandering through young trees to emerge at The Coffin Road. Across the road, over the cattle grid the faint track leads us to the summit of Blackshaw Hill, 217 metres. Lovely views over the Firth of Clyde to The Cumbries and beyond to Bute. The descent follows an electric fence (don't worry we will not climb it!) back down to the Coffin Road and the beautiful wee lochan for lunch. We complete the circle by following a soft spongy path back to the' hole in the dyke'. Off road now, but going good, we will do a loop taking in Knock Jargon (on the map called The Fort ) 233metres. Following the wind farm access tracks we now head downhill and back to the cars.
If it has been raining poles an advantage. Not suitable for trainers!
Note that the route is to be 6.5 miles, with a possible extension to 7.5 miles if the weather is favourable and the group agreeable on the day.
