Overview

Circular walk from Kilchattan Bay - to get to the start we will catch the bus from Rothesay.  We will follow the West Island Way coastal path to Glen Callum, leaving the path for a steady climb to Tor Mor, from which (weather permitting) we get lovely views over to Arran.  We descend to rejoin the coast path before heading inland to St Blane's Chapel.  From there we make our way across the island (with one more steady ascent) to return down to Kilchattan Bay to get the bus back to Rothesay.

Although this is a relatively short walk, it has been graded as moderate (previously B) due to the uneven underfoot conditions and the 2 ascents

Meeting point will be Morrisons at Stevenston for a 07:50am departure to catch the 09:05 ferry at Wemyss Bay (£7.60pp return, plus £3 per car for the car park) .  Our aim is to get the 09:50 bus from outside the ferry terminal to Kilchattan Bay, and if we miss it, we will have an hour's wait until the next one.  All being well, we will be on the 4pm ferry back to Wemyss Bay.

The coastal path is rocky and uneven in several places, so care is needed.  If it is, or has been, wet it will be slippy, and we also pass through several areas of long grass.  Therefore good boots, long trousers and poles (if you use them) are recommended.  There is one fence to climb.

The climb up to Tor Mor is steady, with the final descent down into Kilchattan Bay steeper.
