Route: a loop in Wombwell Woods (morning break), then down to Hemingfield where we pick up the Elsecar Canal towpath to Elsecar Heritage Centre. A fairly gentle walk through woodland and along a towpath, passing through Elsecar Heritage centre where we will stop and see an amazing short film. Morning break in Wombwell woods. Lunch at Elsecar reservoir before we proceed through farmland and ancient woodland to the ruins of Tankersley Old Hall. We then pass near the site of the Battle of Tankersley moor continuing through woodland down to Chapeltown station for return train or bus. Toilets at Elsecar and at the end of the walk.
We will catch the 09.35 Huddersfield train from Sheffield Station arriving Wombwell 09.57. Concessionary users can get half fare using their pass. Buying a return ticket would enable a quicker return from Chapeltown than taking the bus back to Sheffield (1,!A,2,2A, 83,86).
