The Trundle is a hill fort with one of the finest viewpoints on the South Downs.Leaving Chichester's Roman Walls we follow a section of railway path along the Lavant Valley before a steady climb up a firm chalk track to the Trundle Hill fort, returning, if time allows via the tea shop in West Dean or the pub in East Lavant.
Although this is a longish walk, a good chunk should be on a dry firm railway path (Centurion Way) or quiet streets in Chichester, and there is just one long steep climb. In poor conditions the walk can be shortened and more time spent exploring the historical remains of Roman Chichester. Or the cafes and pubs! Please bring a picnic and a drink for a quick picnic lunch stop on the Trundle (no toilets until East Lavant). Circular walk: Paid parking at Chichester, but who wants to do that drive again twice in a day!
Assistance dogs only on this walk please
