We begin this walk at the top of the Dunstable Downs, the highest point in the otherwise relatively flat East of England. We then follow the Chiltern Way for just under five miles. We pass through the pretty village of Whipsnade, strolling through the graveyard of its historic St Mary Magdalene Church along the way.
Henceforth, we skirt the edge of Studham before heading down the valley, across the Hemel Hempstead Road and back to arrive at the quaint little village of Little Gaddesden. At this point, we have arrived in the Ashridge Estate, and there will be the option of having a short pub stop.
Then we go across some more nice footpaths before arriving at Ivinghoe Beacon, one of the highest points in the Chilterns at 233m above sea level.
From here, we start heading back, passing through historic Edlesborough along the way, a village that dates back to the time when records began in the 1086 Domesday Book. We cross a nice little ford, with helpful raised walkway, crossing the pleasant River Ouzel.
Then it’s just a short walk until we arrive at the bottom of the Dunstable Downs, for one final steep climb to take us back to where we began.
