This is a circular walk starting and finishing at Cocking Hilltop Car Park. The walk takes us along the South Downs Way, through Singleton Forest and Levin Down nature reserve , Charlton and on to Singleton. After a short but steep climb out of Singleton, we pass Colworth Farm and continue on through Venus Wood before the downhill stretch along SDW back to CP. The walk begins with a steady but quite long ascent up the South Downs Way, along a good paved track for most of the way. On reaching the Lipchis way, the descent begins all the way down to Singleton. The initial effort is rewarded with superb panoramic views. From Singleton there is a short but steep climb before the track levels out, taking us through arable land, pastures and forests. Then it's downhill along SDW all the way back to CP.
Cocking Hilltop CP is on the No 60 bus route from Chichester to Midhurst, making this walk accessible for walkers wishing to use the bus . Useful too if anyone wants to drop out in Singleton after 4.5 miles and catch the bus back to Chichester. Apart from the steady but not too steep ascent at the start and the steeper climb out of Singleton, the walk is moderate in difficulty, across varied terrain with great views
