Overview

We will follow the first half of the Colne Valley Path. Starting at the Balkerne Gate in Colchester, we will quickly leave the urban environment. Our route takes us along quiet field paths and lanes, passing just south of West Bergholt and Fordham and under the famous Chappel Viaduct.

Probable pub stop for drinks at lunchtime, but please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. Long trousers advised due to nettles and brambles in a few places.

Toilets in Colchester at beginning of walk.
