Conic Hill is a sharp little summit rising above Balmaha. Right on the Highland Boundary Fault, this hill offers truly fantastic views over Loch Lomond and its many islands. This will be followed by a short boat trip to Inchcailloch Island with time to explore the viewpoint, Port Bawn and the remains of a church and burial site. Tea at the Oak Tree Inn in Balmaha (optional) will end the day.
We shall start from Balmaha visitors centre, parking £3.20,and walk to Milton of Buchanan approaching Conic Hill from the south along the West Highland way path. We will (hopefully) enjoy the very best views of Loch Lomond before descending to Balmaha. The small hill at 360m is short and steep following the West Highland Way marked paths. The short ferry to Inchcailloch Island fare is £7.50. There is a circular path taking us round the island. A meal at the Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha will be a relaxing enjoyable end to the day for those who wish to stay on.
