A fast paced circular walk exploring the rolling green hills and woodland of the Eden Valley, passing through charming villages such as Chiddingstone, Hever, Markbeech and Cowden. Terrain is fields and woodland paths, which are likely to be very muddy in places. The walk is undulating but with no steep climbs, with a total ascent of 420 metres.
Bring a packed lunch. The lunch stop will be in the village of Cowden, which is 12 miles into the walk, so make sure to have a substantial breakfast! There is also a pub there for drinks only. Pub at the end of the walk, it is then a further half a mile from there back to the start point (included in the total mileage).
The intention is to walk at a reasonably fast pace (an average of at least 3mph) to minimise walking in the dark, but please do make sure to bring a head torch.
Transport: Take the 9:07 from London Bridge, (East Croydon 9:22) arrive at Edenbridge Town 9:45. Meet outside the main entrance of Edenbridge Town Station.
Anyone travelling from Surrey or Kent and wishing to avoid London can also go to Edenbridge Station from Redhill or Tonbridge - it may also be cheaper! If so, that is 9:00 from Redhill, arrives at Edenbridge 9:16 or the 9:01 from Tonbridge which arrives at 9:16. It is then a half a mile walk to the start point at Edenbridge Town Station and even passes a Greggs and a Lidl to grab some breakfast! - it is a straightforward route, but this is the way the walk leader will be going anyway.
Either way, buy a return to Edenbridge Stations.
