The walk starts with 1.5 miles along a tarmac road. We then follow a good hill path up to a radio mast. After this the path becomes narrow and grassy up to our first hill top, Castle hill. From here we lose height on our way over to Ragensgill hill. We now descend this hill to cross a Roman road, and on up to Tewsgill hill, thie highest point of the walk. Now we descend, passing over Mid Knowe hill before reaching Arbory hill and iron age fort remains. A very steep descent from here leads us to a tarmac road leading us back into Abington. Terrain:- Tarmac roads, grassy paths and open moorland.
The walk is around 7 miles in distance and should take about 5 hours to complete. I would advise the use of walking poles as some ascents/ descents are quite steep. There is very little mud on the walk, but the grass may be wet so gaiters may be required. The village of Abington can be reached from junction 13 on the M74. The car park in on the left in the centre of the village. If you intend to travel directly to the start point, please contact me in advance. Ken Stow 07543698477
