A large part of the route is over Ashley Walk, an important bombing range in the Second World War, with typical New Forest terrain of open heath land, giving distant views, and mixed woodland. The views from Hampton Ridge are particularly good. By way of contrast is the western section of the walk which takes us through the fields and paddocks of small farms that fringe the forest. The paths are mostly good, with some gently rising sections, but there are also some short rough, muddy and wet sections so walking boots are recommended. There are three styles to be crossed. Bring a packed lunch which will be eaten along the way.
Please advise the leader in advance if you intend coming on this walk.
