The walk starts at The Blue Egg cafe just outside Great Bardfield, passing through the village and then following the River Pant. The walk then climbs gently out of the valley with lovely views across a typical Essex arable landscape. On the way to Finchingfield the walk passes the Elizabethan Spains Hall.
The Finchingfield Lion pub has been booked for lunch (pizzas only - no need to pre-book). There is a cafe and two other eateries in the village.
After lunch the walk descends to cross the River Pant before climbing up to Waltham's Cross to cross fields to return to The Blue Egg.
There are some short stretches of road walking.
The Blue Egg cafe has kindly allowed us to park all day. It would be appreciated if we could stay for a cup of tea and be tempted by their cakes after the walk. The cafe is open until 5pm.
Toilets at The Blue Egg cafe.
