A circular walk commencing at Drumfrochar Station, Greenock. The route is on fairly good tracks over moorland and a level footpath along the Cut. The Greenock Cut is a 19th Century aqueduct built to support industries along the Clyde and to provide drinking water to Greenock. There are fine views throughout the walk initially of Greenock, the Clyde, Helensburgh and the hills to the north beyond. As the path turns south west Bute and Arran can be seen and after leaving the Visitor Centre views of the Clyde estuary to the north. Birds of prey may be spotted along the route including ospreys, hen harriers, buzzards, merlins and kestrels. The walk is graded C+.
This is a public transport walk. Meet at Glasgow Central Station at 9.35am to catch the 9.57am Wemyss Bay train that stops at Drumfrochar station.
It is anticipated that we will return to Glasgow by 4.30pm at the latest.
The Greenock Cut Visitor Centre is situated just over half way through the walk and we will stop here for a lunch break. There are toilets and a cafeteria at the Centre.
Although the paths are mostly in good condition they can be muddy in parts. Boots and gaiters are recommended.
