The walk starts from Hole of Horcum car park ( fee £5.50 for day by card) and goes north west, sometimes steeply to reach the railway across the way from Needle Eye. We cross the railway and go up to Needle Eye and then walk through woodland on the edge of the top of the valley before emerging at open moorland. We again follow the edge of the top of the valley before heading towards the cairn of Simon Howe ( expected lunch stop with good views over the moors). We then proceed via Simon Howe Rigg to Wardle Green where we enter the forest and then go steeply downhill to eventually reach Newton Dale Halt, a platform on the railway. After a short walk beside the river, we climb steeply to the top of the valley before reaching Glebe Farm on the A169. There is one rather steep but short climb before reaching our starting point. Throughout the walk, we see some of the best North York Moors scenery with a sense of remoteness and wilderness unique to the moors ,in other words, a great day to forget your everyday concerns!
