A ‘figure of 8’ walk of total distance 13 miles, with an option to do only the first 7 miles. The first half will be from Slad to Painswick with a morning stop in the churchyard where there are 99 sculpted yews and an ornamental clock. Legend says that if anyone plants a 100th yew, the devil will destroy it! When we return to Slad we can have our lunch then go to the ‘dog-friendly’ Woolpack pub for a drink. This part of the walk is undulating. There is the option for people to end the walk there. For those wishing to continue, the second half will be the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way which is 6 miles and includes one steep uphill. It also includes 10 Laurie Lee poems at various points on the LLWW. The walk will end back at Slad. During the walk I shall point out the house where Laurie Lee lived as a child and which features prominently in "Cider With Rosie". If anyone is interested, we can go to the churchyard in Slad and visit Laurie Lee's grave. Please bring food and drink for the stops en route. Thank you.
