Scenic walk through classic White Peak limestone hills and dales. Starting from picturesque Ilam with Swiss style cottages and Ilam Hall estate, we start with a steep climb up Bunster Hill, the effort being rewarded with panoramic views over the surrounding hills, including Thorpe Cloud. Then we descend steeply to Dovedale and on to Milldale (toilets available) for a quick refreshment stop. We then have a short steep climb up to Alstonefield, to say hello to the resident dinosaur, and then go along the side of the Manifold Valley, and back through the grounds of Ilam Hall, where there is a National Trust tea shop if back early enough. Note this is graded moderate but with one steep climb of approx 200m and a steep, uneven descent, so sure footing and a good level of fitness required.
