We head from the car park to Fairlie Station and up Fairlie Glen, through lovely woodland, passing Fairlie Castle, continuing up and out onto open moorland. As the main path forks right to Blaeloch we follow the sign marked Kaim Hill, taking our coffee stop shortly afterwards with views out to Arran
The going now gets more tricky as make our way through heather over uneven ground towards a line of grouse buts. We then follow these uphill until we meet a more defined path that winds its way to the summit. Here we have some of the best panoramic views up and down the Clyde in the region from the summit we head down to the moor road, which we walk down, admiring the views before us until we take our lunch turning by a waterfall.
After lunch we head back to the road and cross to the now well-rutted (and muddy) track that takes us back towards the Glen. We take a left fork passing over Diamond Hill and traversing fields down to a farm track that drops us out on the road a short distance from our starting point.
This walk won’t be for everyone due to the tricky terrain and potential for serious mud.
Walking boots essential. Poles and gaiters recommended.
