Continuing a theme of Lairigs (meaning 'hill top pass' in Gaelic) I have decided to lead a walk through Lairig Leacach ('tiled hill top pass'). This walk traverses between Corrour station, the highest and most remote station in the UK, passes the south end of Loch Treig ('abandoned lake' (Isn't Gaelic fun!)) and then makes its way through the passage of Lairig Leacach to Spean Bridge Station.
The train leaves from Glasgow Queen Street at 12:22 and arrives at 3:24. From here I plan to camp nearby to the youth hostel (weather dependent) although there may also be options to stay at the station house (fancy) or stay at the youth hostel 1km away (if you can get a booking). I will set the number of attendees to this walk at 8 due to the likely need for all to wild camp. We may like to go for a wee stroll in the area, depending on weather conditions and I will make a booking at the station house which offers excellent food options, so this is a good opportunity to pull up a chair and have a dram or two with your fellow hikers. Sunset time is at about 8pm so I suggest you take the earlier train, although there is another leaving Glasgow at 6:23 and arriving at 9:20, but you may have to set up camp or find your accommodation in the dark.
The route is low level (highest point ~500m) so should hopefully not be affected by snow. It is a fair distance though (16 miles) so you will need to have a decent level of fitness and be prepared for uneven terrain with suitable footwear. Please of course equip yourself with the necessary sustenance and warm clothing. We will set off from Corrour at about 9am on the Sunday, which should give us plenty of time to arrive at Spean Bridge station for the train back to Glasgow at 5.51, arriving at 9:20.
