Overview

After a short section on Mud Lane we walk across fields and tracks  to Cadley, then through the Savernake to Postern Gate. From Postern we use footpaths and bridleways to cross farmland and woodland to Clench Common and then up  through woodland onto Martinsell Hill.     The walk follows quiet lanes, footpaths, bridleways and forest tracks.  There is one short steepish ascent but expect the odd stile and some mud.  There is one major road to be crossed and recrossed. Please bring lunch and refreshments.  Sticks may also be useful.  There may be livestock enroute.

Meet and start from the Martinsell Hill car park:- From the A345, 3 miles south of Marlborough, take the road signposted Clench and Wootton Rivers. Travel for approximately a mile and the small car park will be on your right at the edge of trees. If you start to descend, or reach Wootton Rivers, you have gone too far! Nearest postcode SN8 4PA (this is a rural area and the postcode is not particularly helpful for the carpark).
