From the pub we take the public bridleway at the top of Water Lane, via Chalkhill Barrow to view the site of the archeological dig which led to the burial of an unrelated man, woman and child in a “Saxon" Burial Mound in the new cemetery. From there we amble over the (busy) New Road to a surprisingly scenic housing development surrounded by wildflower meadows and fields. Coming out onto one of those fields, we reach a public footpath that takes us upto Cambridge Road which we cross (with due care) to walk around the perimeter path of the Science park and thence via quiet residential streets back to the pub. Steve, Kerry and the staff will be pleased to serve you drinks including real ales and snacks (no food) on your return.
