Overview

A short circular walk from Merstone Station, where the fruit trees are blossoming and the cowslips are in full bloom, up to St George's Down, along the top on part of Bembridge Trail, down from Newport Golf Club past Newclose Cricket Club, along the cycleway through Blackwater to NatureZones, where a special cake is being baked to enjoy with hot drinks, then back to Merstone through the solar farm.  You'll be home for Easter lunch.  Mostly on bridleways, with a few footpaths.  and no mud!

Nature Zones is a lovely wildlife study centre, they also run Nordic Walking events, and importantly for a ramble, have a cafe.  We've been promised a special cake to enjoy with hot or cold drinks.  Please bring means to pay for refreshments.  It's been arranged that we shall not need to pay the entrance fee. Please note, no public toilets on our route.  The number 2 bus Newport - Ryde goes right past our start point at Merstone Old Station, the stop may be called Newlands.  Car parking is also available, but spaces may be limited, share rides if possible.  Dogs on leads welcome.

New walkers welcome. If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise.  We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.

Additional Notes
Depending on the weather, consider suitable, clothing, footwear, walking poles, sun cream, drinks, and food. Walking poles can be particularly useful in winter in helping you to stay upright! Watch out for ticks and remove ASAP. If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walks leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you inform the leader or back marker.

Please note that there may be short sections of road walking, so please walk in a single file and take good care.
