Overview

From Mitcheldean we climb into Lining Wood and loop back through Wigpool Common on a varied route of woodland and meadow, disused mine shafts, a nature reserve and open views towards May Hill, the Malverns and the Severn. Some uphill (and downhill!) stretches and stiles.

We will be taking a mid-morning break at the home of two very kind group members. No dogs, please, because of livestock in the fields.

Meet in car park by Mitcheldean Community Centre (map pinpoints entrance). On the B4224 through Mitcheldean, look out for the blue sign for Mitcheldean Playing Fields and Community Centre and take the narrow entrance it points towards (to the west of the road). Google Maps recognises The Woodlands, Townsend, Mitcheldean GL17 0BE - one of the houses next to the car park entrance. The 33 bus from Hereford to Gloucester stops nearby, near Vantage Point.
