We will take in views of the beautiful rural rolling hills West of Montgomery and beyond. Travelling along a route that incorporates an Iron Age Fort, Montgomeryshire War Memorial Hill, and Montgomery Castle - which even in its ruined state maintains a powerful presence perched on its rocky ridge.
Suggestion is to take a pack lunch -the aim is to stop on top of Memorial Hill and enjoy the panoramic view.
Once back down to Montgomery (Georgian town timewarp) I hope people will enjoy visiting the various independent shops: including 'Bunners' established in 1892...a store that is totally reminiscent of simpler times...offering unusual gifts, homeware, hardware and garden items. It's s on several levels and floors...the whole shop could almost be lifted out of a Harry Potter movie!
In the town there is also an independent book shop, leather goods store, various speciality food shops and florist.
Optional pub stop after....for those that may wish to, the Dragon Hotel bar offers a particularly amazing burger. As with most popular places, it is advisable to book this in advance - let me know if you wish to join in on a table. We should complete the walk by 1:45pm
People may wish to spend an hour or so to look around the town (it is a little place). So pub visit could be a late lunch....or second lunch
Due to the nature of the hills around Montgomery, the walk will take in several steep climbs, but please don't be put off - we will be taking it at a leisurely pace. The best views appear after these climbs and there will be pauses to take these in.
Car parking: there are usually spaces in the town centre (near to the Market Hall and Square). Failing this, there are further free carparks at 'Maldwyn Way Carpark' and at Montgomery Castle (both a 5 minute walk from the town centre).
There are decent clean toilets at Montgomery Town Hall, always handy before a walk.
Dogs are very welcome, however we will be travelling along countryside public footpaths through fields with livestock, so please bring a lead.
