Very popular, classic canal and countryside walk on the Shropshire, Staffordshire border. Highlights include a busy modern marina, the famous old historic Shroppie Canal, the junction where two canals meet, the site of a medieval moated manor, a local nature reserve and of course a finish at the Junction Inn pub, where we can socialise at the end under their marquee. Optional pub lunch/ drink at the end or just linger and watch the boats go by. Apart from a busy road crossing and a very short section of a quieter road this is all along canal tow paths, bridleways, field side and woodland edge paths. It's a relatively easy, pleasant walk, and at this time of year there should be ducklings, cygnets and dragonflies along the waterways and the sound of bird song in the hedgerows.
Car share available, car sharers leave 9.30 from Forge Retail Park, opposite Furniture Village. Bring a drink and a snack with you for a short water break, rest stop. Dogs are permitted, you must let the leader know if you want to bring your dog, be aware that there is one road crossing, with no verge, where traffic can be heavy, and a nature reserve, so your dog will need to be on a short lead. Dogs not permitted inside the pub restaurant area and their bar is being reburbished, but we can sit outside in the marquee. No need to pre-order food before walk start but you can have a look at the menu pre walk start. Toilets available pre walk start over at the wharf and in the pub at the walk end.
