Overview

The route starts by ascending, and walking along, the craggy little ridge of Pared y Cefn Hir. We descend back into the valley and continue to Kings Hostel where we turn to walk gently uphill. The path steepens as we head for, and eventually join, the Pony Path which climbs across the flanks of Cadair Idris. At the bwlch where the Pony Path turns to continue its ascent, we head instead along the undulating western ridge, climbing to reach Tyrrau Mawr (661 metres), the high point of the walk. After pausing to enjoy the wonderful views over the Mawddach Estuary to the mountains and coast beyond, we descend steeply over rough ground to reach the valley floor and return to the start.
