Overview

This is a 5+ miles circular walk in the parish of Penn, starting in the village of Penn Street, on public footpaths through woodland and fields with a mixture of flattish areas and undulating countryside at a moderate pace and no stiles. We set off from the War Memorial on Penn Street village green, passing nearby Penn House estate and moving southwards through Brook Wood to Penn Bottom. Here we join the Chiltern Way that leads us north-east, by Gawde Water pond, through the village of Winchmore Hill, past The Plough inn (of ex landlady Barbara Windsor fame) and we spy the old post office opposite Jubilee Chapel. On leaving the Chiltern Way we skirt Coleshill Larches, Tragoe’s Plantation and Priestlands Wood as we head towards the looming spire of Holy Trinity Church in Penn Street where we can end our walk with an optional, well-deserved church tea. There are signs to keep dogs under control and warnings about equine flu. Walk leader: Sara C
