Overview

For over three hundred years straw plaiters worked in Pirton producing straw boaters for the hat trade in Luton. We start from the Great Green in Pirton opposite the Mott & Bailey pub. We are on the edge of the Chiltern so today’s walk is fairly hilly. We take the Wood Lane track in the direction of Knocking Hoe before turning right in the direction of the Icknield Way towards Markham Hill. We pass Wellbury House heading towards Clouds Hill Farm before turning east in the direction of Wellbury Lower Wood. We then turn north towards Hanginghill Plantation, before taking the path back to our starting point in Pirton.
