This walk is for hay fever sufferers, but all are welcome. Portland's west coastline is usually bathed in SW winds with nearest land several hundred miles away. We meet in the free The Masonic Car Park and walk the SW Coastal Path, views all the way, to Portland Bill and The Lobster Pot. We return up the East Coast for a couple of miles to return by bus from Fortuneswell - buses every 20 minutes.
The only difficulty is walking up the steep coastal natural path to the top of the Island. Boots with good treads will be fine. If it's wet, we will go up the old footpath, which is tarmacked. We meander through Toute Quarry Sculpture and Wild Life Reserve, one of Portland's jewels. The contrast between the characters and views on Portland's west and east coasts is striking. The dry limestone vegetation is not known for generating grass pollen.
