This is an approximately 10 mile walk lasting 4.5 to 5 hours. We start at the Grangemuir Road Car Park in Prestwick and make our way through the back streets of Prestwick to St Cuthbert's golf course and then around the perimeter of Prestwick Airport. We go under the A77, walk through St Quivox and cross the B743 road to enter Auchincruive Estate, where we will have a break near the Clock Tower Cafe. We will follow the road back out of the estate towards Oswald's Bridge, but we turn right down the River Ayr walk before reaching the bridge. We follow the River Ayr walk until we reach the A77, there is a brief walk beside the busy road before we pass under the road and follow the River Ayr to the town centre. Near the University of the West of Scotland we will have our second break. Then we will pass through the harbour area to Newton-on Ayr promenade and then back along the coast path to Prestwick.
There are a few muddy paths, but no real obstacles and very little climbing. Walk is rated moderate due to the length and duration. We do have to cross a few busy roads and walk along country roads at St Quivox and Auchincruive that do have some traffic. Finish time should be around 3 pm. No public toilets directly on route.
