Remembrance at the Airman’s Grave, Ashdown Forest
Meet at 8.30 (note time) at Staines Railway Station (optional) for car transfer to Nutley village, Sussex M25 J6 / A22 (Post Code TN22 3NA or OS 135/TQ441279). Park off High St. near the Petrol station/Memorial Hall Car Park for 10.00. start. An undulating circular walk taking morning coffee at the Airman’s Grave to briefly witness the annual remembrance service at this remote spot on Ashdown Forest, the crash site of a returning Wellington bomber on 31 July 1941. Traditional presence of local gentry on horseback, a bugle sounding, and the (possible) fly pass of a Tiger Moth releasing a shower of poppies. Picnic/Pub lunch on Fairwarp village green.
