This is a hilly walk from Cromford, taking in Matlock Bath, Starkholmes, Riber, Dethick, Lea and Holloway along the route. The walk is mainly through pasture, woodland and quiet lanes, with some excellent views over Matlock and the Derwent valley.
We will meet in the area near the Cromford Wharf public loos. There are two car parks here, Cromford Wharf and the Rugby Club, the latter being the slightly cheaper. Apart from the start and end, there are public loos which we will pass at Matlock Bath. Bring a packed lunch.
Bearing in mind this is the winter season, it is essential that walkers bring warm clothing, waterproofs; and that they wear strong waterproof footwear. Although escape routes are numerous on this walk, you should be prepared for the worst winter conditions, regardless of the forecast on the day. Underfoot conditions can be challenging, with tree roots, boulders and muddy sections to negotiate.
