And we're back again for the 3rd annual Good Friday Roaches Walk! I may end up making a weekend of this, so if anyone is interested in leading another walk nearby on Saturday 19th, please let me know so we can coordinate.
The walk:
After passing by the Don Whillans Memorial Hut, we'll start with a short but steep climb up to the ridge of the Roaches - a popular spot for rock climbers - where we'll (hopefully) enjoy panoramic views, while passing several stunning rock formations on a very easy to follow path. We'll pass Doxey Pool, a tranquil but allegedly haunted pool that is reputed to be home to a malicious mermaid named Jenny Greenteeth. Later on, we'll make our way down into a nice forest path where we'll follow the River Dane for some time, before taking a turn to visit Lud's Church - not an actual, physical church, but a moss covered chasm used as a place for secret worship in the 15th century.
As usual, we'll plan to go for a pint at Ye Old Rock Inn after the walk: https://www.yeolderockinn.com/
