We are the Wakefield and District Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
From Springhead Park we pass the site of a medieval Manor house, through Rothwell Pastures Woodland and sites of several collieries in the area. We take in part of Rothwell Country Park (YWT) including the "Summit" (254 ft) for a 360 degree view over Leeds and West Yorkshire including Temple Newsam. We drop back down to Pickpocket Lane before heading back though houses and the park. The walk is on a combination of footpaths and pavements. Two short sets of steps but no stiles. Packed lunch. Optional cafe at the end. Public toilets in the cafe in Springhead Park.
Meet Springhead Park car park (near entrance), Oulton Lane, Rothwell, LS26 0D (bus 444/446). Please note there is a "Park Run" starting at 9am so hopefully the car park will be empty by the time we arrive! Alternative car parks and street parking available in the area.
