Walking in Wakefield and beyond
We are one of the 12 Ramblers groups making up the West Riding Area. We have about 170 members and offer both local walks and walks a little further afield in the beautiful countryside of the surrounding areas.
There are many country parks in the district which we are always keen to include. We pride ourselves on our friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a number of new walkers have become regulars over the past years.
We know it can be daunting joining a group of strangers, so we encourage newcomers to contact the leader of the walk beforehand when any queries can be answered. Contact details can be found in the 'Our Walks' section below.
Our walking community
We tend to walk on Saturdays and provide a weekly walk throughout the year. Walk length varies between 4 and 10 miles and are rated leisurely or medium - we like to stop and look!
If appropriate we will include local interest information - historical, birds, flowers etc. We also like to encourage the use of public transport and many of our walks will accommodate this.
If you think you may arrive later than the time stated (especially if arriving by bus or train), it is worth contacting the leader to make them aware as we tend to leave promptly.
Registered assistance dogs are, of course, allowed on any walk. However, if you would like to bring any dog, please contact the leader prior to the walk as many of our walks are around livestock farms and may not be suitable.
