Overview

This is an ideal beginners ramble it takes in the two riverside nature reserves and passes a number of historic sites. The route takes us from the Haverfordwest County ground to the adjoining nature reserve from which we enter the town proper. We take a meandering route through the town to stop and read blue plaques that we pass on route to the castle, Mariners square , St Thomas’ Green , Winch Lane and Priory Saltings. Returning via the Priory ruins and Prendergast to the start of the walk.

This is a mixed urban and countryside walk. Apart from urban paths we walk along tarmac, gravel and grass riverside paths and a short section of country lane. The route affords us good views over the town and the Prescells beyond as well as the opportunity to see the outside of a number of historic buildings. Whilst walking boots are recommended, the path between the Priory Saltings and the Priory ruins is often muddy due to the close proximity of the river. This can be avoided by a half mile self guided short cut. There is plenty of after walk refreshment facilities, however the Waldo lounge has excellent river views and paved garden.
Please check the website the night before for any last minute changes - due to the location of this ramble forecast heavy rain could lead to the cancellation and postponement of this ramble.

The cattle market car park is behind Morrisons in front of the football ground. It is accessed from the east bound side of the A487 by turning left immediately after crossing the river passing the stone circle and riverside children’s playground passing on the left hand side of Morrisons as you look at from the road
