Join us for an evening walk when we hope to hear the distinctive churring call and see the erratic flight of one of our rarest and most unusual birds - the Nightjar.
The Nightjar migrates from Africa each summer to breed on heathland and forest edges. they nest on the ground, taking to the sky at dusk to hunt moths and beetles on the wing.
Our walk takes us over Oaking Clough, along Stanage Edge and up to Stanage Pole. 3 stiles and it's liable to be muddy in patches after rain. On the final stretch the sun should be setting and we will pause for a while in an area where Nightjars are known to breed. Please note they are wild birds and sightings are not guaranteed. We could be returning in the dark to the car park, so bring a torch and, if you have one, a midge net.
The walk is subject to the weather being still and clear and may be cancelled at short notice if conditions are unsuitable, but if so, booked attendees will be contacted by text.
