Overview

Pre-registration preferred but not essential **

Beech woods and Thames Valley views.

Moderate to brisk 18km/11.2 mile walk, with 210m/689ft of ascent. About 4.5 hours actual walking

Includes a short stretch along the Thames Path, but - if flooded - this can easily be avoided using roads

Route: south from the station to the Thames by Mill Lane, Thames Path to The Warren wood, track up into Shiplake village, roads and tracks to Shiplake Row and Binfield Heath, Binfield House, Chiltern Way along Bones Lane into Bones Wood, Kingsfarm Lane, footpaths to Cowfields Farm, Rotherfield Grey (pub lunch), Pindars Wood, Greys Green, Greys Court, Park Cottage, northeasterly then southeasterly through Lambridge Wood, Badgemore End, along Friar Park into Henley.

Lunch: The Maltsters, Rotherfield Grey, after 10.4 km (food to order up to 14.30) https://www.maltstersarmsrotherfield.co.uk/

Meet at Shiplake Station at 10.55

Travel: Paddington 10.08 (Didcot Parkway train)  changing at Twyford (arr 10.41) to 10.45 Henley train arr Shiplake 10.52.

Options - to avoid tight connection - 09.48 Elizabeth Line to Twyford or the fast 09.52 GWR train to Reading (arr 10.15) and travel back to Twyford (arr 10.29).

Ticket/Fare: Buy Off-Peak Day Return to Henley-on-Thames. Freedom Pass holders (if using Elizabeth Line) buy Return Twyford to Henley).

Finish: Henley Station ‐ trains to Twyford every 30 mins.
