This is a 5.2 mile walk of moderate difficulty on hills and through woods. There is a long incline and a steep decline. Sticks are necessary for the journey down the steps at the end. There are no toilets.

Meet at Lordenshaw Car park
From A1, take A696 to Ponteland. Continue on A696 to Belsay, go through village and take the Bolam Lake road on the right. Follow the road to Scots Gap. At Scots Gap take the road North past Fontburn Reservoir to Forestburn Gate. There is a pub there "The Gate" NE61 4PT. Continue on the road 1mile. Take the road off to the left with a cattle grid (straight on really). Follow this road 1mile to the CP on your right.
We will go directly up onto the ridge paths which are paved with stone to avoid erosion and bogs, along to the far end, down the steep stair-path on to the forestry roads, through the trees and along the road back to the car park.
