The walk starts at Sutton Wharf carpark and follows The Ambion way through Ambion Wood to the Battlefield Visitor Centre. Down the hill to Shenton station crossing the Battlefield Line. The walk continues on field paths where we encountered horses and several stiles and crossed the dismantled railway track.
We continue to join the Ashby de la Zouch canal crossing the bridge and joining the Leicestershire Round up a section of lane before navigating over a small footbridge and walking diagonally across the field into Dadlington.
Lunch stop will be at Dadlington where we can have lunch on the village green and also take time to explore the ancient churchyard of St. James the Greater Church where Henry VIII commemorated the dead from the Bosworth Battle of 1485 by interring their remains in the churchyard. The battle was King Richard III’s last stand in the Wars of the Roses and saw the end of the medieval period and beginning of Tudor dynasty.
From Dadlington we have a section of lane before crossing back onto the canal and back to the Sutton Wharf car park and café.
THERE ARE SEVERAL STILES, HORSES IN A COUPLE OF FIELDS AND MUD.
