Overview

OVERVIEW

A Sunday stroll with a lunch stop. This is the next stage of the coastal path, which will be completed in sections this year. This is a linear walk. Meeting (to tally with bus transport) at Freshwater Bay , opposite the car park at 10.15am

We will be walking the Coastal Path from Freshwater Bay. A lovely coastal walk with stunning views. Up over Tennyson Down, down to Alum Bay Needles Pleasure Park, up again over Headon Warren to Totland Bay and then round to Colwell.

A couple of uphills up Tennyson and Headon Warren. Some uneven surfaces but no cliff edges this week. No stiles.

Plentiful facilities on this section - free toilets at Freshwater Bay; Alum Bay; Totland and Colwell. Cafes etc too.

Wise to look at the website on the day just in case of any changes or additional info. And in the event of extreme weather please check back for cancellation (postponement)  notices.   You can also check with Serena on 07564-811690 (and if you would like to join the embryonic informal WhatsApp group then please message that number).

Depending on the weather, consider suitable, clothing, footwear, walking stick, sun cream, drinks, and food. Watch out for ticks and remove ASAP. If you are unsure about your ability to undertake this walk, please contact the walks leader. If you need to leave the walking group, please ensure you inform the leader or back marker.

TRAVEL

This section of the walk  is actually simpler than some ! Some options:

By car:

If you are carshare/shuffling, park one car at Colwell Common (free onstreet parking on the other side of the common. Or in the Colwell Bay carpark if you prefer), and the second car at Freshwater Bay for a 10.15am start from there. At Freshwater Bay there is plenty of free onstreet parking along Afton Road (or use the pay carpark at Freshwater Bay)

By bus (from Newport)

Simple for once – and the walk times have been  brought forward slightly earlier to fit in with bus times from Newport.

It is the 9.30am No 12 bus from Newport bus station, arrives at Freshwater Bay at 10.10am

There are No 7 buses back from Colwell Common to Newport every half hour at .02 and .32 mins past each hour
