Apart from a brief visit to Grindleford, this walk is a celebration of our incredible gritstone edges. After descending Padley Gorge to Nether Padley, we will continue to Froggatt and Curbar edges, returning along the more remote White Edge. Weather permitting, we should get some spectacular and extensive views of the upper Derwent valley, and distant Kinder plateau. This walk has previously featured rutting red deer stags, so who knows what may turn up this time!
Please make note of the 9.30 start time for this walk, and the fact that the NT will close the car park at 4.00pm
Bring packed lunch. There is a cafe at the start/end, with toilets. Although we will pass the Grindleford cafe, early on, the proprietors have never been particularly forthcoming in allowing access to their loos, without a purchase.
Please be sure of your fitness level to undertake this walk. Mindful of the short daylight hours and closure time of the car park, it will be essential to maintain a reasonably brisk pace, to avoid placing the party in jeopardy. This walk crosses areas of high exposed moorland. It is vital that walkers bring adequate food, warm clothing, waterproofs and strong waterproof footwear. Bear in mind it is the winter season, and regardless of the forecast on the day - be prepared for rapidly changing and potentially worsening conditions. Underfoot conditions can be challenging, with tree roots, boulders and bogs to negotiate.
