Whitegate Way & River Weaver - Thur 14 Nov

A moderate/leisurely walk.  Toilets and café available 10:00 to 15:00, hence the earlier than usual start time. Along the former railway track before leaving it to cross a quite busy minor road. Then ascend through trees and over fields to Foxwist Green, then to Whitegate and Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club before crossing the Vale Royal Cut at the locks. Follow the Weaver Navigation which we recross, onto another minor road which we follow for a short distance before taking paths and tracks to rejoin the Whitegate Way at the former Catsclough Crossing and so back to the cars.  Risk assessment: Some field stiles, and exposed tree roots in wooded sections. Short stretches on minor roads which can be busy. Care required crossing at the locks, alongside the waterway and on the minor roads There are other users on the waterside walkway and the Whitegate Way. May be livestock in some fields and possibly muddy after rain.
