Overview

The raised peat bogs in this area are a unique habitat in Shropshire, of international importance, the third largest of their type in the UK. The Whixhall mosses and meres are a National Nature Reserve and the walk will be taken at a leisurely pace to allow time to look around. The route traverses a flat landscape with big sky views. It includes a long section of the Shropshire Way with woodland lined tracks, wetland edges, fields, plus a long section of the Llangollen canal tow paths with some listed raised bridges. There's  a 3km crossing over the middle of the mosses, and a climb to the top of the Mammoth Tower, from which the whole reserve is visible.

Morris's Bridge Car Park, although the official address is given as 3 Roving Bridge, the access to the car park is actually off Moss Lane, you need to drive over the narrow swing bridge (NB care!) and Sat navs may not take you to the precise location so follow brown tourists signs when nearing the Nature Reserve.
