Overview

A “minimal mud walk” for a time of year when many routes are very muddy. But there could be some short muddy stretches – waterproof footwear recommended.

The route is fairly level walk with some gentle ascents/descents, on grass, surfaced roads, woodland paths and sandy tracks. We will pass many features of interest in the park including the Heather Garden, the Totem Pole, Virginia Water and a superb view of Windsor Castle. Toilets and a refreshment kiosk at the lunch stop – bring a packed lunch.

Well controlled dogs are allowed but park rules require them to be on a lead in many areas.

Parking: In public parking area opposite the Inn (nb some residents of the cottages regard the layby opposite as being for their exclusive use, so probably best not to park opposite the cottages) or on the road near the Inn OR on residential streets near the junction of Crimp Hill and the B3021 (eg down the side of the Fox and Castle pub, which is on the B3021 just south of the junction with Crimp Hill. If parking here, allow 3-4 minutes to walk to the start point). Google map: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4567976,-0.5909404,15z?entry=ttu What3words: ///pits.river.decay Grid ref: SU 980740
